The county today launched a new $150,000 security grant program to provide financial assistance for local faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and houses of worship facing hate crimes, antisemitism, and targeted threats.

The funding for the program was included in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget, and it is aimed at cushioning the investment these organizations make to either upgrade their facilities or enhance security.

> "Every resident in Anne Arundel County deserves to feel safe, protected, and welcome when gathering to worship or serve our community," said County Executive Steuart Pittman. "By launching this pilot grant program, we are taking a direct step to stand against hate, ease the financial strain of safety measures, and help our faith-based institutions and local nonprofits invest in the protection they need."

> "Our goal at the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is to build resilience across every corner of our county, and ensuring our community organizations have the necessary security safeguards is vital to that mission. “I look forward to working directly with applicant organizations through this rollout to guide them through the process, provide expert safety technical assistance, and allocate these critical resources effectively," said Preeti Emrick, OEM Director.

According to the County, the County Council and community advocates developed the program's guidelines, forms, and eligibility criteria through a joint effort.
