The feedback from these events will inform the school system as it implements the ban on electronic devices and establish clear expectations for student use of AI.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools is on track to miss the state's Oct. 22 deadline to adopt a policy on the use of AI, the Capital Gazette reported following the Board of Education's meeting on Oct. 7.

The report cited procedural issues as the reason. The school system is currently running a series of Community Connections sessions with Superintendent Mark Bedell on student use of AI and the statewide cellphone restrictions taking effect for the 2027-28 school year.

The sessions are from 6- 8 p.m. and are open to all residents (with interpreters available).

The dates are:

Oct. 27 at North County High School,

Nov. 2 at Glen Burnie High School,

Nov. 5 at Northeast High School,

Nov. 10 at Arundel High School,

Nov. 12 at Southern High School,

Nov. 17 at Annapolis High School

Nov. 19 at Meade High School.

After the sessions, AACPS will post the video of Bedell's opening remarks and the information from the small group discussions online.

The feedback will guide the school system as it implements the ban on electronic devices and establishes clear expectations for student use of AI.
