Help tell Anne Arundel County’s stories

What is changing in your neighborhood? Which decisions deserve closer attention? Who is doing work the wider community should know about?

Arundel Post welcomes pitches from reporters, freelance writers, photographers, subject specialists, and residents with a compelling local story. We want reporting that helps people understand Anne Arundel County and participate in its future.

What we cover

We welcome ideas across six areas:

  • Civic: County government, public services, public spending, community issues, and accountability.
  • Elections: Candidates, campaign finance, voting, and policies affecting local residents.
  • Business: Local businesses, entrepreneurship, jobs, and the county’s economic climate.
  • Education: Schools, school board decisions, student experiences, and access to educational opportunities.
  • Development: Housing, planning, transportation, infrastructure, and changes to our neighborhoods.
  • Creative economy: Artists, cultural organizations, creative businesses, and the people shaping local culture.

We are especially interested in overlooked stories, original reporting, and clear explanations of decisions that affect everyday life.

What makes a strong pitch?

Start with a specific story, explain why it matters now, and show its connection to Anne Arundel County.

A strong pitch identifies the people affected, the questions you will investigate, and the sources or records you plan to use. Offer a fresh angle rather than a general topic.

You do not need a long list of published work to pitch us. Local knowledge, curiosity, and a credible reporting plan matter.

How to submit

Email your pitch to olu@arundelpost.com with the subject line:

Pitch: [Proposed headline or topic]

Include:

  • A brief description of the story and why it matters.
  • The local connection and proposed angle.
  • Sources, interviews, or documents you expect to use.
  • Your proposed format, approximate length, and availability.
  • A short introduction and links to previous work, if available.
  • Any relevant conflicts of interest.
  • Whether you are pitching the story elsewhere.

Please send a pitch before completing a full article unless we have requested a draft.

Our editorial standards

Submissions must be original, accurate, and properly attributed. Writers should verify claims, link to supporting records where possible, and give people a reasonable opportunity to respond to criticism or allegations.

Do not submit plagiarized work, fabricated quotations, undisclosed promotional material, or articles written to sell backlinks.

Disclose any use of generative AI when submitting. AI tools must not replace original reporting, source verification, or the writer’s responsibility for accuracy.

Photographs and other materials must be yours to submit or used with appropriate permission. Include credits and captions.

Opinion and community perspectives

We welcome thoughtful commentary grounded in local experience, expertise, or evidence. Make your argument clearly and explain its relevance to county residents.

Opinion submissions must disclose relevant affiliations and interests. They remain subject to fact-checking and editing, and publication does not mean Arundel Post endorses the writer’s views.

Editing, payment, and publication

Accepted work may be edited for clarity, accuracy, length, headlines, and house style. We may request additional reporting or revisions.

Payment, expenses, deadlines, and publication rights are agreed in writing before an assignment begins. An unsolicited submission does not create a paid assignment or guarantee publication.

You retain ownership of your work unless a separate written agreement states otherwise. Any permission for Arundel Post to publish or promote an accepted contribution will be addressed in that agreement.
